Engagement sessions are so much fun! I love getting to know couples and seeing them interact! This beautiful couple was so much fun to be around! Riley is very bubbly and giggly, whereas Ben was quieter and more reserved. You could say that opposites attract, but more than that, they really are amazing together. During our time together it was evident how much Ben adores Riley just by how he looked at her. Riley’s affection towards Ben was clear too. She couldn’t stop smiling and you could sense their connection. We first met at Capitol Park for their Tuscaloosa fall engagement before heading to Riverwalk to end their session by the water.
We knew Capitol Park was a must stop location for their engagement portraits as the couple shared their first kiss at that same spot! It was special to photograph them there and provide them with a beautiful memento from their relationship! We were fortunate to have gorgeous weather and beautiful light all afternoon, which we were very thankful for as we had already rescheduled once due to weather, but it was well worth the wait!
We finished at Capital Park, did a quick wardrobe change, and headed to Riverwalk. Before making our way towards the water, I captured the couple against the lovely fall foliage. It looks magical with the sunlight peeking through the burnt orange and auburn colored leaves. I love ending sessions at this location as the sunset always looks amazing with the water in the background and this was no exception!
The couple shared that they met “the first weekend of freshman year at a college ministry event.” They started off as friends but started dating within a month, and have been together since.
Ben proposed to Riley over this past summer. Riley revealed that leading up to the moment, she had a feeling it was happening soon. On the day of the proposal, he had arranged a date and she got her hair and nails done, just in case! She remembers her friends acting suspiciously and the timing of their date being odd, as Ben said he would pick her up at 4:40, which she thought was way too specific!
Originally they were supposed to go to the Riverwalk, but due to the rain, Ben quickly changed plans and had Riley’s best friend set out roses and candles at Riley’s favorite coffee shop where her best friend worked. Her best friend closed the coffee shop down early for this special moment! Riley and Ben walked into the beautifully arranged shop, with Shania Twain playing in the background. Ben promptly proposed to Riley, who of course said “YES!”
I just love hearing about how couples meet and their proposal story! Ben did awesome adapting to the inclement weather and creating an incredibly, special moment that I know neither will ever forget. Congratulations, Riley and Ben!
