Just as with my wedding post, it was hard to choose my favorite moments from the last year! I feel incredibly blessed to have so many shoots to look through and reminisce over (it’s the ideal photographer ‘problem’ to have!). This sampling celebrates the unique love stories that unfolded against the backdrop of this Birmingham and the surrounding areas, and showcases some sessions that were unique for one reason or another. Special thanks to these amazing couples for letting me play a small part in their story:
Claire and Paul: This sweet couple had a very classic, elegant engagement session in downtown Birmingham. Paul had met my husband through work, and I loved meeting Claire about a week after they were engaged. I instantly loved her heart and her sweet spirit. We utilized Southside Baptist Church and Railroad Park. Both locations have historic significance, and Railroad Park celebrates the industrial background of the downtown area. (See their full engagement session here).
Heather and Daniel: This couple is full of life, and always up for a fun time! I don’t think they stopped smiling for their whole session, even when I tried to get more “serious” facial expressions. It’s hard to contain joy when you feel it in your soul, and these two are most certainly soulmates. This dreamy outdoor shoot took place on private property they have access to, and made it extra meaningful. They shared that they love visiting this piece of land, and treasure the “views, and how quiet and peaceful it is”. (View their full engagement session here).
Jennifer and Jay: If I had to choose one favorite aspect of this engagement session, it would be the overall sophistication and elegance. The outfits and the location (Shoal Creek Golf and Country Club) worked seamlessly together to create a timeless feel that I think they will love for years to come (and that won’t ever look dated!). Jennifer and Jay are two of the sweetest and most loving individuals and together, they are an unstoppable team. I loved working with them (view their full session here)!
Kelly and Steven: The elegance and simplicity of Kelly’s beautiful ring was a detail I definitely did not want to miss…it was beautiful and classy, just like the bride-to-be. This pair utilized the Southside Baptist Church and Birmingham Overlook for their natural light, outdoor session. One thing that made this couple stand out to me was how comfortable they were with each other, and how that reflected so wonderfully in their images. They look like they’ve known each other all their lives, and I know their future as husband and wife is incredibly bright!
Teresa and Jake: What girl doesn’t want an enchanting engagement session in a field of wildflowers? For Teresa, this was the perfect location to celebrate the beginning of her wedding journey with Jake. Surrounded by the vibrant colors of nature, they looked absolutely radiant, and Teresa’s dress reminded me of Hillhouse Collection. This pair was kind, friendly, and delightful to work with, and I can’t wait for their wedding in a few weeks!!
Lauren and Grantham: This adorable pair opted for a mix of outdoor, more casual shots, and more formal ones downtown. I loved the way the light worked with both of Lauren’s stellar dress choices, and couldn’t get enough of the way that Grantham looked at her with such love and adoration (seriously, can you even?!). These two went on to have a Christmastime wedding in the same year as this shoot, and I was honored to do the photos for that amazing day as well. I find myself smiling when I look back at these photos, and hope they also cherish these memories!
Lauren and Emmitt: I love when my brides-to-be wear a shade of white. Although you know how much I love color, it’s always a fun nod to the wedding day to include a dress that has a cream or white hue. For Lauren, her crisp white sundress was swoon-worthy, and paired perfectly with Emmitt’s pale blue shirt. This pair is head-over-heels in love, and had even handcrafted a little wooden sign to celebrate their new (shared) last name and wedding date. We did images at a few different locations so they could get a wide variety of looks and poses, and it was so hard to narrow it down to two to share today!
Haley and William: It’s not every session that I get to include a furry family member, but Haley requested a few shots with her sweet dog, and I was more than happy to comply! This adorable couple was all smiles for their engagement shoot, and we got so many great images. Haley switched to a hot pink (in her Barbie era, obviously!) fitted dress for our more formal location downtown, and William donned a dapper suit. I loved that this session captured all the facets of their awesome personalities in preparation for their wedding day (and you can find the rest of their engagement session here).
Madison and Ryan: This charming couple chose an inaugural hike at Noccalula Falls in Gadsden for their engagement session, and it captured their mutual love of the outdoors! The views at Noccalula Falls provided backdrops for amazing photos, with jutting rocks and lots of waterside spots. Obviously, the highlight of the falls are…falls, but these two were the real stars of the show! We laughed a ton, I learned more about their love story, and we got dozens and dozens of beautiful memories captured for them.
