As a mom of two, I know just how quickly the maternity and newborn days go by. Even though they’re marked by new parent nerves, sleepless nights, and wondering how this tiny new person will fit into your family, they are sweet and precious, and they are fleeting. So, as a maternity and newborn photographer in Birmingham AL, I am keenly aware of how special it is that I get to be a part of that season of life for so many clients. In 2023, I met so many delightful parents-to-be and their new additions, and I am sharing some of their beautiful stories today:
Smith Maternity- This wonderful family is so full of joy, and they had a breezy, beautiful outdoor session. I loved mom’s cream-colored dress and her rainbow-toned earrings, and I especially loved the way they interacted with each other during their session. They are clients I have had the pleasure of working with several times now, and I can’t wait to continue capturing their growing family!
Baby Olivia- One special part of this session was seeing the wedding photos above their bed in their primary suite…because I took those photos! I loved doing their wedding portraits, and felt so grateful they invited me back into their story for the birth of their little girl. She’s one lucky little baby to be so very loved!
Baby Morgan- Little Morgan is clearly loving this baby gig! Mom and dad were some of my wedding clients as well, and when they called me to document their beautiful baby girl, I really felt the weight and privilege of being part of their lives for so long. I can’t wait to watch sweet Morgan grow up.
Baby James- C’mon…should moms be allowed to look THAT beautiful after having a baby? This precious mama looked like she stepped off the cover of a magazine, and her smile brought me so much joy. She is now the proud mom to two wonderful littles, and we did this lifestyle newborn shoot to celebrate. Their home is full of crisp neutrals and little pops of bold color and it made our shoot so fun.
Baby Jack- Little Jack made these two parents, and they couldn’t be prouder of their firstborn. He was angelic for our time together, and I loved seeing their carefully-curated nursery that they poured their hearts and souls into. His monogram bow was a special touch, and reminded us of what a sweet gift he is.
Baby Walker- This session was warm and cozy, and special because this is one of my best friends! She’s now the mom of two sweet babies, and I’ve been lucky enough to take newborn photos for both of them. The neutral tones of their outfits worked perfectly with the soft blues and browns in the background, and all worked together to keep the focus on the star of the show: Baby Walker!
Smith Newborn- If mom looks familiar, it’s because 2023 allowed me to do her maternity and newborn photos within the same year. I loved the pops of color in her maternity images, and she brought that same style and sensibility to her newborn shoot (peep that beautiful blue and white, paired with the peaches on the blanket!). Tiny details like that make my color-loving heart happy!
Baby Ansley- It’s sometimes rare to see photos of just dads and their babies, but I always make a point to get a few of each parent solo. There’s something about seeing a dad with a brand-new baby girl that really tugs at the heartstrings, and I think dads are an integral part of those newborn days, too. This sweet shot of baby Ansley and her daddy ended up being a favorite from their session.
Aurora and Arden Newborn- Double the sweetness, double the love! This mom and dad welcomed twin girls, and I could not believe how alert and friendly they were…all smiles! For their session, mom chose a mix of classic heirloom attire and some adorable matching strawberry outfits. Their shoot was filled with soft colors and plenty of heartfelt moments.
Mattie Maternity: Another special moment for me was getting to do this modern, trendy maternity shoot for my sister-in-law. She requested something that was a little outside my usual style, but it came out perfectly and I loved that she wanted something different (and I got to stretch my creative wings). The styling was fun and I got to try out new poses plenty of fresh ideas.
Baby Wilkes- Not long after our maternity session together, my brother and sister-in-law welcomed baby Wilkes, and I got to be both proud aunt and photographer. Their classic nursery (look at that gorgeous crib!) made for an excellent backdrop, and we got crisp and classic newborn photos with plenty of natural light. Of course, I think my nephew is pretty great, but I was a little biased and may have taken a snuggle break or two.
Baby Griffin- This session had the DREAMIEST light, and can we have a moment of appreciation for that blue color in the nursery?! These parents were wedding clients of mine, and when they entrusted me with their newborn session, I was thrilled. They kept things classic with tones of blue and white, and it was really tough to cull down their stunning gallery.
Cochran Newborn- These clients are what we term in the photography world “legacy clients,” and I can’t express what an honor it is for me to have them in my life. I did their engagement photos, wedding photos, and documented their first baby’s newborn portraits, too. When they welcomed their brand-new baby girl, I practically raced out the door in excitement. Since we have worked together before, we are so comfortable with one another and it made the posing and styling a cinch.
Baby Anna Foster- More natural light? Yes, please. Another soft, dreamy newborn session for some past wedding clients made my heart so full. Baby Anna was alert and wanted to be part of all the action. I enjoyed the tour of her bright, soft nursery which was filled with neutral creams and pinks. Mom and dad were proud beyond words, and couldn’t wait to introduce their bundle of joy!
Scally Maternity- This was another standout maternity session, because the mom-to-be is another one of my best friends. In fact, she flew me out to Savannah, Georgia to capture these images in this season of her life. We were in each other’s weddings and have been by each other’s side for some of life’s biggest moments, and I can’t wait to meet her newest family member.
As we wrap up the highlights from maternity and newborn sessions in 2023, I can’t help but feel grateful for the incredible families who shared their beautiful moments with us. It’s been a year filled with laughter, love, and the pure magic of new beginnings. If you or someone you know is gearing up for the adventure of parenthood, why not make it extra special with a photoshoot? Let’s capture those glowing moments of pregnancy and the adorable little details of your newborn. Your story is unique, and I would love to be part of telling it!
