A new baby brings something special and irreplaceable into a home. If it’s your first baby, you suddenly feel like a family. With subsequent babies, it’s the joy of knowing that you will find your rhythm with your new family member. It’s why I love doing newborn photography; every family is in love with their tiny new human, and they are all finding their footing in the sweetest way. For this newly-minted quartet, their new little girl has been a wonderful gift. Named for both her grandmothers, little Betsy fits right in, and is finding her (little)voice in her family. We did this session in their cozy, bright home, where big brother was elated to show me around!
In fact, I first met this sweet couple when they welcomed their little boy and I did his newborn photos. They have become treasured friends, and I was so happy when they invited me back to do Betsy’s, as well. In-home, lifestyle newborn sessions make things a lot more relaxed for new parents who may be a little sleep-deprived. Clients have shared with me that it is much easier to prepare for a newborn shoot at home, especially if there are siblings to dress/get ready, or if mom is still recovering from her labor. Additionally, it allows you to capture a season of your life in your home that is really beautiful to look back on. I always try to get a few snaps of the curated nursery that parents have worked so hard on, or little corners of the home that mean a lot (this sweet little rocking chair has surely seen a late night lullaby or two!). Many families also find that lifestyle newborn sessions allow older siblings to feel less stressed and more relaxed in their own space when they are already dealing with a lot of new emotions.
Working with families in their own space and home allows us to also incorporate sweet heirlooms and memories, such as the little gold bracelet you see below. In-home sessions are not rushed, are flexible, and I always account for baby needing to be fed or snuggled. If this is what you’re looking for when it comes to celebrating your newest family member, please reach out to me. I’d love to start the booking process for you!
