If you’re a native to Birmingham or the nearby cities, you have probably noticed that this striking location looks a bit unique and unfamiliar. You’d be right, because it’s actually in one of our neighboring states, Georgia! I was so honored to head to the Peach State to document this exciting season of life for one of my dearest friends, Shelby. Shelby hails from Mississippi and her husband from New Zealand, but they met while she was studying abroad. Both of them are deeply intellectual and creative, and they are architects who also lend their talents to flipping houses on the side. I love their creative spirits and wanted to bring that side into this session. We chose Forsyth Park and Wormsloe Plantation for their session, and both feature sprawling grounds and interesting architectural details that reflect their love for design. Not too long after this session, they welcomed a precious baby boy, and entered this brand-new chapter in their lives. I feel so grateful to have been a small part of their journey, and sure love seeing my friends become parents.
Are you an expectant parent? I’d love to share how my sessions differ from other photographers in our area; I believe your maternity sessions should have plenty of personality and customized details that mirror your lives and interests. I also know there are many different journeys to parenthood, and whether you are pregnant, adopting, going through surrogacy, or undergoing fertility treatments, maternity portraits are special and important. If you have an unique circumstance, I’d love to work with you to figure out how to best document your steps to parenthood. Many families are unsure how to do maternity or newborn portraits under a variety of circumstances, but I love brainstorming and helping their dream come true.
Another thing I always want to emphasize to expectant parents is to go ahead and schedule that newborn session! In fact, we can schedule your newborn session at the same time that you schedule your maternity session. It’s one less thing that you will have to think about in the postpartum haze. Yes, we know that babies are unpredictable and can come much earlier or later than anticipated, but it’s good to get a tentative date scheduled and we can move it around if needed. Your and baby’s safety are my number-one priority and I’m happy to be flexible if you have an unexpected birth experience or a premature little one. As a mom of two, my own maternity portraits and newborn images are something I treasure. It’s my goal to make sure every parent can have that same feeling of overwhelming love when they look back at their photos!
