Laurel + Tyler’s Elegant Windwood Equestrian Wedding in Pelham, Alabama

One of my favorite things about photographing weddings is getting to see how every couple makes the day feel uniquely their own. Laurel and Tyler planned a celebration that felt elegant without being overdone, meaningful without feeling staged, and full of moments that reflected who they are together. From beginning to end, their wedding at Windwood Equestrian was centered around spending intentional time together while celebrating with the people they love most.

Windwood Equestrian provided such a beautiful backdrop for the day. The sprawling property, peaceful barns, and open fields offered countless opportunities for portraits, which was something Laurel had been looking forward to long before the wedding day arrived. She shared that having plenty of variety in their portraits together before the ceremony was one of her biggest priorities, and having the freedom to explore different areas of the property made that easy. Every corner of the venue offered something a little different, allowing us to create a gallery that feels both timeless and diverse.

Before guests ever arrived, Laurel and Tyler chose to share a private first look. They wanted that moment to belong to just the two of them, even if family watched quietly from a distance where they couldn’t interrupt the experience. It was exactly what they hoped for. The excitement of finally seeing each other, the nerves disappearing almost instantly, and the chance to simply breathe together before the ceremony created one of the sweetest parts of the day. Laurel also shared a first look with her dad, adding another emotional moment before everything officially began.

As much as the portraits mattered, so did the little details that surrounded them. Laurel had a clear vision for the photographs she hoped would help tell the complete story of the day years from now. The reception fountain, the charming ice cream cart, guests signing the guest book, and even the horses around the property all became part of the story they wanted preserved. Those thoughtful details help recreate the atmosphere long after the celebration is over.

Some of the most meaningful pieces weren’t decorative at all. Laurel shared that her Grandpa Buettner had handcrafted the wooden cross displayed on the reception mantle, making it one of the most sentimental items at the wedding. Knowing those family stories ahead of time allows me to photograph them intentionally, because years from now those photographs often become some of the most treasured in an entire gallery.

As the ceremony gave way to cocktail hour and dinner, nearly 200 family members and friends filled the reception with so much energy. The evening felt relaxed, joyful, and full of genuine celebration. There was no rushing from one event to the next. Instead, everyone seemed completely present, enjoying conversations, laughter, and every moment they had together before the evening ended with a memorable exit.

Laurel and Tyler’s wedding is such a beautiful reminder that the photographs you’ll treasure most often come from a combination of thoughtful planning and simply allowing yourselves to enjoy the day. Their celebration was filled with beautiful details, meaningful family traditions, quiet moments together, and a venue that provided endless opportunities to document every part of their story. It was such an honor to be part of their wedding, and I cannot wait for them to relive these memories for years to come.
