This proposal is one that is very near and dear to my heart. Kathleen is one of my dearest friends, and I was so honored to be in on this secret! Kathleen and I met at Auburn and were in the same sorority. We lived across from each other on the sorority hall, and when we moved into apartments, I basically lived at her apartment half of the time. She was a bridesmaid in my wedding and has been a steadfast friend for almost 10 years now (which is crazy that it’s already been that long!!)! I still remember when she told me she was going on a date with a new guy named Daniel. She and I were getting lunch at Melt, and I could tell she was excited. She told me he was actually her small group leader from that past semester, and she not only really enjoyed his personality, but she respected and looked up to his love of the Lord.
Fast forward to January 2020, and Daniel asks me and another one of our friends to grab dinner one night to discuss some plans. Immediately, we were ecstatic! We knew they had talked about marriage, but Daniel had been saying it wouldn’t happen until summer of 2020, so we were thinking he was just getting things planned way in advance, which would be very typical for him. We were shocked when he said he wanted to propose at the end of February! We knew Kathleen would be so surprised and not see it coming since she was thinking it wouldn’t happen until at least this summer.
After that meeting, Daniel and I took a few visits up to Southeastern Jewelers to take a look at some rings and figure out what he thought Kathleen would like best. I used to work at Southeastern Jewelers, and the family that owns it are such great friends of mine, so I always try to send referrals their way when I can! After a couple of visits, Daniel decided on a ring, and now, we just had to wait until the proposal day: Friday, February 28.
Finally, the proposal day was here. Daniel decided the perfect way to throw Kathleen off would be to say that they were celebrating their one year dating anniversary that night and that he had something special planned for them. Well, he definitely did have lots of special things planned! He and Kathleen went on a scavenger hunt around Birmingham to places that were special to them with each location having a clue for where to go next. They ended at Railroad Park, where I was there waiting for them to capture the proposal. Kathleen was completely and totally shocked, and SHE SAID YES!!! I can’t express how excited I am for these two friends to begin the next chapter of their lives together, and I can’t wait to stand next to Kathleen’s side while she marries the man of her dreams!!
